Our last meeting and Potluck dinner

Our beloved president, Gladys. She and her DH love John Deere tractors.
Rita made a round rooster quilt/tablecloth.

And Rita is behind this quilt that she made and donated to Project Linus.

And here are Karen (on the left) and Sara (on the right) holding up Karen's finished Bowtie quilt. It is a very beautiful work of art. Great job Karen!

Women of the Bible Quilt

A year long challenge is beginning this week. I thought some of you might be interested in this quilt, written by an Indiana woman. There is an online group that weekly creates a new block and discusses one woman of the Bible.

This group begins the 54 week study on APRIL 19, 2009. You may begin the series anytime. This is an online group study of women of the Bible and their associated quilt blocks. We use as one resource for this study, the Women of the Bible devotional book by Ann Spangler and Jean Syswerda (hard cover, pink, 1999). ISBN: 0310223520, or you may use the recently revised version of this book.

A set of quilt patterns is available for this project and can be purchased at A Quilt of Many Colors. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WomenoftheBibleQuilt/

Fabric Dye Workshop

May 4, 2009 Our dye workshop is only a few days away. You will need to bring the following with you:

A bucket or wash tub to carry your fabrics home
Zip-loc bags, gallon size. Inexpensive is okay, cheap is asking for trouble
Disposable plastic spoons
Paper Towel or rags for clean up
Medium quality white or off-white 100% cotton muslin, washed and cut or torn into fat quarters or 1/4 strips

We will be using Procion Dyes. There are a lot of dye products on the market. These are certainly not the only ones that work, but there are several advantages to using these dyes. They are locally available in small quantities from United Art & Education http://unitednow.com Larger, less expensive quantities can be obtained from Dharma Trading. http://www.dharmatrading.com. These dyes do not lose their color. Therefore it is NOT necessary to over dye fabrics.

We will be using reference materials found in "Hand-Dyed Fabric Made Easy," by Adriene Buffington. This is a quick exploration guide that will get your creative juices going.

"Power of 10"

The following is a page in our guild's handbook:

The "Power of 10" in quilting is not some higher mathematical formula that quilters all need to learn to make a quilt. It is a simple way to complete those projects we want to finish before we buy any more fabric.

1. Simply find the projects that you are no longer interested in completing and pass them on to someone who would love it as much as you once did.
2. List "10" projects that you would like to complete. Remember "Only10" projects are to be on the list.
3. Begin working on the projects on the list and spend three hours toward completing it.
4. Keep a list of projects and the hours worked.
5. Once three hours are spent on a project move to the next. A quilter's interest wanes and is usually spent after three hours. Now if a project requires two to four hours it doesn't matter. Simply finish the project. Feel good about finishing it.
6. Find another project and add it to the list. Remember, only 10 projects are your focus.
7. Continue to rotate the projects you are working on.
8. List supplies needed to finish your projects.
9. Shop once for items needed.
10. The "Power of Ten" becomes reality when you are able to share your finished projects.

Hoosier Favorite Quilters now has a blog!!

Ok ladies, quilters, friends and new members we are officially on a blog.
I have sent invitations to all members I had an e-mail address for.
I have set this blog up so that only members can post but anyone can comment. If we get some "mean" comments I will enable moderation controls. We do not want that so let us be nice!
