Fabric Dye Workshop

May 4, 2009 Our dye workshop is only a few days away. You will need to bring the following with you:

A bucket or wash tub to carry your fabrics home
Zip-loc bags, gallon size. Inexpensive is okay, cheap is asking for trouble
Disposable plastic spoons
Paper Towel or rags for clean up
Medium quality white or off-white 100% cotton muslin, washed and cut or torn into fat quarters or 1/4 strips

We will be using Procion Dyes. There are a lot of dye products on the market. These are certainly not the only ones that work, but there are several advantages to using these dyes. They are locally available in small quantities from United Art & Education http://unitednow.com Larger, less expensive quantities can be obtained from Dharma Trading. http://www.dharmatrading.com. These dyes do not lose their color. Therefore it is NOT necessary to over dye fabrics.

We will be using reference materials found in "Hand-Dyed Fabric Made Easy," by Adriene Buffington. This is a quick exploration guide that will get your creative juices going.
